ABOUT OUR BIG SING

For the past four years Sunderland Music Hub have hosted a Big Sing event, working with local schools to create a spectacular celebration of music. Last year’s event took place online and was streamed directly into schools and homes across the region. We are staying online this year and have added a very personal twist to the event; each of the songs performed at the Big Sing 2021 celebrates Sunderland and some of the artists and professional musicians to come from this city. The songs will be recorded and performed at Sunderland Empire by professional bands from the area, then streamed straight to you at home or at school.

We invite you to join us digitally, joining schools, families and other settings across the city by singing along to a selection of songs with links to our musical city or written by artists from Sunderland. (Don’t worry, you won’t be on camera so you can let loose and add in some dance moves too!)

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us for the Big Sing– we’d love to have as many of you there with us as possible. Most of the songs should be familiar to you but if not, we have included lyrics in our resource pack. The songs won’t be available on SingUp this year, but we have recorded simple backing tracks and videos to support you when learning the songs ahead of the event. Everything you need can be found below! Why?

And also because live events on a big scale still aren’t possible this year, so if you can’t come to us, then we will come to you!

The concept is the same in that we will all be singing the same songs at the same time across the region. All that’s changed is that we can’t see you. So please do leave us comments on whichever platform you are watching us from, send us a wave or an emoji to let us know you’re there and we’ll do our best to respond.
