Q&A: DOCKSUNS
First of all, tell us about yourself, who are you and what do you do?
We are DOCKSUNS. Five fellas from the tropical beaches of Sunderland. We enjoying writing, recording and playing music.
Why did you choose to become a musician/songwriter?
I think music is a way of getting a message out there, to tell someone something or reflect upon an experience. It’s always important to speak about things and for us this is how we do it.
As a young musician/songwriter, who were some of your biggest inspirations?
Alex Turner was the magician of our era growing up, Barry Hyde another brilliant poet who’s obviously local to our area. Ex-girlfriends, current girlfriends, ex-friendships, fights, arguments all inspire us to write in different ways.
What do you feel is your biggest achievement in music so far?
We enjoyed the airshow gig this year; big stage, big crowd was different for us. Our EP launch to a sold out crowd downstairs in independent was special, then we’ve got our BBC introducing debut which was a milestone for us all.
What are your biggest aspirations within the music industry?
We want to go all the way, headlining stages hearing crowds chant our music back to us, that’s the dream.
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice as a young musician/songwriter, what would it be and why?
Stick at it! Why? Life’s too short.
Why is music education so important?
Because where else are you going to learn that every good boy deserves football?
