Harry and Sam of our Furthering Talent programme and Downhill Music Project have been featured on Awards for Young Musicians website!

The two friends first started at the Downhill Music Project 3 years ago- a relaxed weekly session held at Downhill Community Club, where young people are able to try new instruments and experiment with music-making. After picking up guitars under the guidance of Downhill’s music leaders, Harry and Sam’s love for playing saw them be nominated for the Furthering Talent programme and benefit further from one-to-one tuition.

Harry and Sam have continued to grow as young musicians, and alongside other young musicians from Downhill Music Project, they have performed to panel members from The Key Fund and in front of their family and peers at Sunderland Empire for our Sounds of the City showcase.

Awards for Young Musicians’ full article can be read here, where Harry and Sam spoke about how playing music makes them feel and their future aspirations.

Downhill Music Project is free to attend and runs every Tuesday during term-time; 4:15-5:15pm for under 10s and 5:15-6:15pm for 11-17 year olds. Whether an accomplished musician, or just wanting to try a range of instruments for the first time, all are welcome to join our relaxed sessions and make music alongside other young people.
